MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) - Medical tourism is becoming increasingly popular among foreigners, Head of the Information and Communications Department at Medical Initiative, coordinator for medical tourism at the Healthcare Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee Aleksandr Trus said during a city info stream on 19 May, BelTA has learned.

According to official statistics from the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry, the number of medical services provided to foreign citizens has increased 1.5 times over the past five years, Aleksandr Trus noted.

He highlighted key factors that attract foreigners to Belarus: high quality of healthcare, safety, speed of medical services and competitive prices. “Over the past year, foreigners from 160 countries have visited Belarus. In Minsk, Kazakhstan ranks first in terms of the number of tourists, Russia second, and Bosnia and Herzegovina third,” he said.

Thanks to the state policy focused on developing relations with African countries, the number of visitors from the continent has increased over the past year, particularly for ophthalmology services, he noted. “Previously we mainly worked with CIS countries. Today, we are attracting visitors from all over the world, and that is largely thanks to our visa policy,” he said.

The most popular medical services among foreigners include transplantology, medical check-ups and diagnostics, oncology, dentistry, obstetrics and gynaecology, as well as other types of medical examinations.

Aleksandr Trus added that Belarus is developing comprehensive medical tours, allowing guests to receive the medical care they need with city walks, dinners at restaurants and other activities.
