Delegations from 16 foreign cities to attend Minsk’s 950th anniversary celebrations

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) - Delegations from 16 cities of Russia, China, Poland, Latvia, France, the United Kingdom, Austria, Serbia, Moldova, Kyrgyzstan will take part in the celebrations of the 950th anniversary of Minsk, BelTA learned from the Economy Committee of the Minsk City Hall.

Representatives of cities maintaining twin town and partnership relations with Minsk have been invited to take part in the celebrations. The Belarusian capital will welcome guests from Murmansk, Novosibirsk, Kaluga, Ulyanovsk, Omsk, St. Petersburg, Beijing, Changchun, Lyon, Lodz, Chisinau, Nottingham, Bishkek, Belgrade, Riga, and Vienna. They will have a bus sightseeing tour and a walk to discover the museum and park complex Pobeda (Victory). The guests will also lay wreaths and flowers at the Minsk Hero City memorial.

Minsk City Day is traditionally celebrated on the second weekend of September. This year Minsk will mark the 950th anniversary from the first mentioning in the Primary Chronicle. Organizers have prepared many surprises. On 8 September, the museum and park complex Pobeda will host a musical fountains show. The international historical reenactment festival Ancient Minsk will take place near the Minsk city hall at the crossroads of Pobediteley Avenue and Masherova Street on 9-10 September.

There will be cultural and entertainment programs near the Sports Palace and in other parts of the city. International festivals of aeronautics, youth and street culture, sports competitions and other events will be also held as part of the 950th anniversary celebrations.
