Chongqing-style settlement to be built in Minsk Oblast

Chongqing-style settlement to be built in Minsk Oblast

MINSK, 1 August (BelTA) –  A settlement resembling China’s Chongqing is to be built in Minsk Oblast. This decision was formalized by a strategic cooperation agreement signed in the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee on 1 August, BelTA has learned.

“We would like this settlement to be erected near Minsk. We will show our Chinese partners some land plots in Minsk District and Smolevichi District. Proximity to the airport and the China-Belarus Industrial Park Great Stone was among the major criteria, because we wanted many people to see how a Chinese village looks like,” Minsk Oblast Deputy Governor Nikolai Rogashchuk said.

The settlement will cover an area of about 100 hectares. The design of the housing was inspired by the Ba-Yu culture, one of traditional cultures of Chongqing, and by architectural patterns used in the eastern part of Sichuan Province. The construction project will be run by a Chinese investor. “At first we will look at the land plots and choose the venue, after that the construction will begin. Our friends will build this settlement within the shortest time possible,” Nikolai Rogashchuk said.

Speaking about cooperation between Minsk Oblast and the city of Chongqing, he pointed to steady supplies of Belarusian products to Chongqing. “In May Chongqing received a big consignment of dairy products made by Slutsk Creamery and Zdravushka-Milk. Another set of 41 wagons will deliver about 1,000 tonnes of milk powder and whey,” the deputy governor said.

Cooperation in other sectors is vibrant, too. In late August Chongqing will host an information technology expo Smart Forum. Minsk Oblast will be represented by a private company that is going to open technoparks in Borisov District and Minsk District. The company is now doing the necessary paperwork. The Minsk Oblast delegation is going to address some economic tasks during the expo: there are plans to discuss China’s financial support for projects in Minsk Oblast and a possibility of tariff cuts for delivery of products made in Minsk Oblast.
