China’s status of Guest of Honor at Minsk Book Fair enhances cultural ties with Belarus

MINSK, 11 February (BelTA) – The participation of China in the 22nd Minsk International Book Fair as the Guest of Honor has become a new page in the cultural cooperation between the two countries, Deputy Director of the Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television Yan Xiaohong said at the forum in Minsk on 11 February, BelTA has learned.

Yan Xiaohong stressed that China is proud of being the Guest of Honor. The delegation comprising about 80 people has arrived in Belarus from China. Visitors of the book fair will see more than 5,000 Chinese books. The exposition showcases Belarusian language translations of Chinese books, Belarusian books translated in Chinese.

The topic of World War II is close to both Chinese and Belarusian people. Therefore, the book fair displays books dedicated to the Great Patriotic War, World War II. According to Yan Xiaohong, the signing of the memorandum of cooperation in translations is a good start for the strengthening of relations between the two countries. Minsk has brought together many famous Chinese writers who will meet with their Belarusian colleagues.

Belarusian Information Minister Lilia Ananich was glad that China’s status of the Guest of Honor allowed this country to present a large-scale and diverse exposition at the book fair. According to the minister, the cooperation in the information sector between Belarus and China will be enhanced. Besides, the memorandum of cooperation in the translation of literary works has made an input in the strengthening of relations between the two states, has become a strategic map of this cooperation.

The representatives of the Chinese delegation presented books to the National Library of Belarus. Director of the library Roman Motulsky said this is not the first present from Chinese friends. For example, the library uses computers presented by the Chinese side; the two states exchange publications. According to Roman Motulsky, the potential of cooperation has not been depleted yet.
