Chess in Schools program to be introduced in Belarus in 2016

MINSK, 18 December (BelTA) – The Chess in Schools program will be launched in Belarus in 2016. The relevant agreement was reached at the meeting between Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and President of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) Kirsan Ilyumzhinov in Minsk on 18 December, BelTA informs.

At first the project will be run as an optional out-of-school activity at Minsk and regional schools. The World Chess Federation will help with training coaches, organizing seminars and master classes, and providing educational materials.

FIDE unites 186 countries and runs the program in many countries teaching children to play chess from the primary school.

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov stressed that he plans to attend one of the first lessons in Belarus next year and hold a master class for teachers and school headmasters.
