Brest to host music festival during German Language and Culture Weeks

BREST, 3 October (BelTA) - The music festival will be held in Brest during the German Language and Culture Weeks on 3-25 October, Brest regional philharmonic told BelTA.

Musikfest 2018 is organized jointly with the public association "Twin cities Brest and Shussenthal". The festival will offer three concerts. The first "From Baroque to Romanticism" will be held with the support of the German Embassy om 3 October. The Chamber Orchestra of Brest Regional Philharmonic under the baton of Vyacheslav Prilepin (Belarus) and Georg Mays (Germany) will perform in the Holy Cross Church. Georg Mays, Chairman of the German Mozart Society is a prominent figure in the German music scene. He promotes the classical music of the "old masters". The concert will feature works by Bach, Pachelbel, Handel, Mozart, and Mendelssohn.

The concert-lecture "Bach 333" is scheduled for 18 October. The event will be held in the chamber hall of the Brest State College of Music named after Gregory Shirma. The concert will feature pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach performed by students of the music schools, professors and students of the music college.

The final concert of Musikfest 2018 will be held in the church on 25 October. Belarus’ People’s Artist Igor Olovnikov and the student choir of the Belarusian State Academy of Music (BSAM) directed by Inessa Bodyako, head of Choral Conducting Department at BSAM. They will perform organ and choral music pieces by German and Belarusian composers.

Brest will host the German Language and Culture Weeks for the 12th time. The event started with the short movie festival “Shorts at Moonlight” in Brest educational institutions on 1 October and will end with a seminar for German language teachers on 29 October. The program also features meetings with German writers, workshops, quests and many other events.
