Brest to host classical music festival on 8-12 January

BREST, 31 October (BelTA) – The 30th installment of the international classical music festival January Music Nights will be held in Brest on 8-12 January 2018 and will bring together the country’s best companies, honored worker of arts Lilia Batyreva, the founder and arts director of the festival, told a press conference, BelTA has learned.

The President’s Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus under the baton of Viktor Babarikin will perform on stage of the Brest Academic Drama Theater on the first day the festival. The official opening of the festival on 9 January will be accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the National State TV and Radio Company (arts director and chief conductor Alexander Sosnovsky). The ‘parade of orchestras’ will be continued by a concert of the Iosif Zhinovich National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments (arts director and principal conductor Mikhail Kozinets). The National Academic Concert Orchestra of Belarus under the baton of Mikhail Finberg and the Gennady Tsitovich National Academic Folk Choir (arts director and principal conductor Mikhail Drinevsky) will perform at the close of the festival.

The January Music Nights will feature People's Artist of Belarus, Professor Igor Olovnikov, People’s Artist of the USSR soloist of the Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theater Irina Bogacheva (mezzo-soprano), first flute of the Milan and Rome opera theaters Professor Antonio Amenduni, Honored Artist of Ukraine Solomiya Pryymak (soprano), opera diva from Poland Joanna Nawrot (soprano) and other good friends of the Brest festival.

It is expected that the forum will draw about 500 musicians from 13 countries, including Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, China, Chile, Japan, the United States.

The head of the culture department of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee Sergei Panasyuk noted that the tickets will go on sale on 1 November.

The organizers of the international classical music festival January Music Nights are the Brest Oblast Executive Committee, Brest City Hall, the Culture Ministry, the Belarusian Union of Musical Workers, Brest Regional Music Society.
