Brest to celebrate city day with reenactment event

BREST, 17 July (BelTA) – We are planning to reenact the battle to liberate Brest from the Nazi invaders on 29 July, BelTA learned from Piotr Pitsko, chairman of the board of the the Garnizon military and historical club.

“In 2019, we will celebrate the 1000th anniversary of Brest. We would like to make a special gift to the city, therefore we have begun to prepare for the event in advance. For the first time we will reenact the battle to liberate the city this summer. We will polish the scenario in the next two years. We will try to make sure the event wins the reputation and status over this time,” he said.

The reenactment event will take place in the Historical and Memorial Museum “Nemtsevichi Estate” in the village of Skoki. It will feature an episode when one of the villages of Brest Oblast was liberated from the Nazi invaders. Participants will show the interaction of the troops with locals, the life under the occupation. The historical battle reenactment will run for approximately 40-50 minutes.

The event will be arranged on the initiative of the Brest Oblast Executive Committee. Its organizers are also the BRSM Youth Union, the Garnizon military and historical club and the 111th artillery brigade.

Brest celebrates the City Day on 29-30 July.

Brest was liberated from the Nazi invaders on 28 July 1944 during the Lublin-Brest offensive operation by the troops of the First Belarusian Front. The honorary title “Brest” was assigned to 47 units and formations that made a great contribution to the liberation of the city.
