Brest Fortress to mark its anniversary with new exhibition hall

BREST, 16 March (BelTA) – The Brest Fortress Memorial plans to open a new exhibition hall in 2016, BelTA learned from Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Memorial Larisa Bibik.

This year the memorial will mark its 45th anniversary. A number of events will take place as part of the celebrations. “We will do our best to expand our exposition space in the barbican of the south-eastern barracks of the fortress. This space will be used to house not only our exhibitions. With modern equipment, light and security systems we will be able to show Brest residents expositions of other museums as well,” said Larisa Bibik.

In June the exhibition hall will host a joint project with Russian museums. The exhibition, entitled You Shall Not Kill, will be organized in cooperation with the State Memorial and Natural Reserve "Museum-Estate of Leo Tolstoy "Yasnaya Polyana” and the Tula State Arms Museum. Another project will be held jointly with the Prokhorovskoye Pole State Military History Museum.

The memorial will also run a photo competition among visitors. The best works will be presented at the exhibition Brest Fortress. A Tourist’s View.

The Brest Fortress Hero Memorial was set up on 25 September 1971. Apart from the 45th anniversary of the memorial, the Museum of Defense will mark its 60th anniversary this year. The museum opened its doors to the public on 8 November 1956. Over the time more than 23 million tourists visited the citadel.
