Big-name Russian TV hosts talk journalism with Belarusian students

MINSK, 15 September (BelTA) – Famous Russian TV hosts Sergei Mayorov, Aleksei Pobortsev, Oleg Shommer, Valdis Pelss, Leonid Mlechin, and producers Eteri Leviyeva and Kira Proshutinskaya met with students of the School of Journalism at Belarusian State University and shared their secrets of the profession on 15 September, BelTA has learned.

The students discussed matters of interest together with the media persons and asked them questions. For instance, a young man suggested TV should switch to internet following the successful example of some popular bloggers. Valdis Pelss, the director of the Dokumentalist company, replied that TV and internet should get in touch with each other. In his words, every documentary produced by his team is uploaded to internet right after the TV premiere, which helps expand and diversify the audience.

Valdis Pelss spoke on how to combine the role of the host of entertainment TV shows and the production of serious films. Aleksei Pobortsev and Sergei Mayorov, who also make documentaries, tlaked about their experience in this industry and its distinctive features. In turn, producer and director general of the Academy of Russian Television Eteri Leviyeva inquired which TV programs are popular among students and whether the Kultura TV Channel is interesting for their generation.

At the end of the meeting the guests stayed for a while at the university, spoke with the students, posed for photos, and signed autographs.

This meeting opened Image of Time, the second festival of Belarusian and Russian regional TV companies. The program features roundtable discussions, master classes by famous foreign media persons, and visits to Minsk landmarks.

Image of Time is going to extend through 16 September. The event has gathered 17 Belarusian and Russian regional TV companies from Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno, Mogilev, Pinsk, Shklov, Bryansk, Yekaterinburg, Kaliningrad, and other cities.

The contest of regional TV projects Image of Time will take place during the festival. The jury has evaluated over 30 projects in different genres submitted by regional TV companies. The solemn awards ceremony will be held on 16 September.

The Image of Time festival is organized by the Belarusian Information Ministry in cooperation with the Belarusian Television and Radio Company and the School of Journalism at Belarusian State University.
