BelTA, Xinhua sign new cooperation agreement

BEIJING, 1 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian news agency BelTA and the official press agency of the People’s Republic of China Xinhua concluded a new media cooperation agreement. The signing ceremony took place as part of the first media summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Beijing, BelTA informs.

On BelTA’s behalf the agreement was signed by Director General Irina Akulovich. The document envisages an exchange of information in English, Russian and Chinese, video content and also media cooperation within the Belt and Road initiative. The parties will cooperate in the coverage of big international events, the implementation of joint projects, including photo exhibitions.

Xinhua is a long-standing partner of BelTA. The cooperation between the two news agencies is based on the agreement signed in 1993.

BelTA Director General Irina Akulovich met with Xinhua President Cai Mingzhao to talk over a wide range of issues related to media cooperation.

The first media summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held in Beijing on 1 June to promote the Shanghai Spirit, open a new epoch of media cooperation. The event was organized by China State Council Information Office and China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration.

Attending the event were representatives of China, Russia, and other SCO member states, and also Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Mongolia, Nepal, Turkey and Sri Lanka.
