BelTA presents book about partisans at Minsk book fair

BelTA presents book about partisans at Minsk book fair

MINSK, 5 February (BelTA) – The book Heroes of Partisan Land, compiled by BelTA with the support of the Standing Committee of the Union State of Belarus and Russia, was presented during the 27th edition of the Minsk International Book Fair on 5 February, BelTA has learned.

The book tells about 91 partisans and underground movement members who were awarded the title of the Hero of the Soviet Union for heroism and courage. They came from different republics of the USSR, but accomplished their feats in the territory of Belarus.

The theme of the partisan movement in Belarus is further explored in five films that can be found with the help of QR codes from the book. The stories of the heroes are illustrated with documents: letters of commendation, personal records, and archive photos.

Of course, the book will be assessed by readers, State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union State Grigory Rapota noted. “We tried out best to make the book interesting. The theme of the Great Patriotic War is timeless, because it is not just a war, not just a history of victories and defeats – it is a story of human lives. Even if we remember only a tenth of people who died in the war and say something about them, it will remain in the memory for many years. So let’s wait for readers’ feedback. Moreover, we would like to encourage readers and the society to share ideas about events from the tragic period of the Great Patriotic War we should focus on next,” he said.

On 5 February, Belarus Information Minister Aleksandr Karlyukevich presented the book Springs of Memory. Director General of the Indrik publishing house (Moscow) Kirill Vakh spoke about the project to publish a book about the events of the Great Patriotic War that took place near the Russian town of Rzhev.

The 27th edition of the Minsk International Book Fair will be running in the exhibition complex at 14 Pobediteley Avenue through 9 February. The program of the fair features a lot of business and cultural events: roundtables, master classes, discussions, workshops from artists and illustrators, book presentations, and meetings with authors. The fair has brought together around 400 exhibitors from 30 countries. The fair is held under the slogan “Belarus is an Open Book”. The Russian Federation is the guest of honor of the 27th edition of the book fair and the United States is its central exhibitor.
