BelTA, Great Patriotic War Museum to launch new joint project

MINSK, 14 January (BelTA) – The BelTA News Agency and the Belarusian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War History have prepared a joint project Destinies Folded in Triangle. The project is timed to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The project will feature personal correspondence of participants of the Great Patriotic War. The museum holds over 2,300 war-time letters which make part of a separate section of the museum. The correspondence includes soldiers’ letters folded in a triangle form, postcards and cards sent from the front line.

The project is a wide reaching survey of people who went through the war, the fallen and the survivors, those who made the papers and ordinary people. Within the permits of the military censorship, the fighters described various aspects of the war: hardships of their daily routine, attacks, injuries and the joy of victories. These letters take us behind the scenes of this tragic time, make us emphasize with the people who had to face death every single day.

The first issue of the project is dedicated to the couple of Lidia and Arkady Fradkin. They met during the war and wrote each other touching letters. They survived, got married and lived half a century together.

Personal stories of the Destinies Folded in Triangle project will be published every week. The project will wrap up on the eve of the Victory Day. Each issue will be illustrated by artist and designer Aleksandr Lapin.

This internet project will give a broad audience an opportunity to see unique historic documents.
