Belavia to focus on European destinations in summer 2016

MINSK, 3 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian air carrier Belavia expects that in summer 2016 tourist flows will switch from Turkey and Egypt to European destinations, Igor Cherginets, Belavia’s Deputy Director General for Marketing and Foreign Economic Affairs, said on 3 March during an event held to mark the company’s 20th birthday, BelTA has learned.

“The charter program (for the summer – BelTA’s note) is almost ready. It may be changed a bit after we discuss it with our tour operators,” Igor Cherginets said.

As for Turkey and Egypt, the company’s representative noted that the political situation in the region affects travel companies. Therefore, the number of flights operated to these countries will be reduced in comparison with the summer of 2015. “The tourist flows will switch to other destinations,” Igor Cherginets noted. For example, more flights will be offered to Barcelona. Besides, aircraft with larger capacity will be used. The same applies to Larnaca. Belavia also has plans to launch a new flight to Palanga and increase the frequency of flights to Batumi.

Belavia is the largest air carrier in Belarus by the number of passengers and cargoes it transports. In January 2014 the Belarusian airline acquired a legal status of an open joint stock company. Belavia operates 27 aircraft, and offers regulars flights to 46 destinations in Europe and Asia. Belavia joined the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in 1997 and the European Regions Airline Association (ERAA) in 2010.
