Belavia satisfied with Sharm el-Sheikh airport security measures, will continue charter flights

MINSK, 9 November (BelTA) - Belavia remained satisfied with the level of security in the Sharm el-Sheikh international airport and will continue performing charter flights, BelTA learned from the press service of the airline.

Representatives of the Belavia security service and management held working meetings with representatatives of the Sharm el-Sheikh international airport, the Egyptian intelligence services, the police and the army. In the process of inspecting the airport, Belavia checked the procedures for inspecting vehicles entering the airport, passengers, luggage and carry-on bags. "At the moment there is a multi-layer inspection procedure in place. At first the inspection is done by technical means, and is followed by the personal inspection of all passengers, luggage and carry-on bags, without exception, by employees of the aviation security service and police of the airport. Additional controls were introduced in the Sharm el-Sheikh international airport over the observance of the personal inspection and luggage search rules,” the airline informed.

"Having made sure that the security at the Sharm el-Sheikh international airport is provided at a high level, Belavia intends to perform charter flights to Egypt in a routine mode," said Igor Cherginets, Belavia’s Deputy Director General for Marketing and Foreign Economic Affairs.

Tomorrow Belavia is scheduled to perform two charter flights to Hurghada.

At the moment, a number of states, including the European Union members, inspected and provided assistance in improving the security procedures at the airports of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada. Flights in both directions are performed by air companies from Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, Belgium, Austria, Hungary, Georgia, Ukraine, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Tunisia, and other countries. At the same time the UK and Russia stopped flights to Egypt and are now expatriating tourists from Egypt.
