Belarusian theater RTBD to present two productions in Shanghai

Belarusian theater RTBD to present two productions in Shanghai

MINSK, 11 November (BelTA) - The Republican Theatre of Belarusian Drama (RTBD) will go on its maiden tour to the People's Republic of China that will last from 25 November to 7 December, BelTA learned from the theater.

Shanghai audiences will have the opportunity to see two recent productions by the RTBD and the Center of Belarusian Drama: the original play "My Homeland" and the famous "Evening" based on the play of the same name by Aleksei Dudarev. The company will perform at the Theatre Young, one of Shanghai's most important contemporary art centers which hosts theatre groups from around the world every year. The performances will be in Belarusian with Chinese and English subtitles.

The theater will perform as part of the China Shanghai International Arts Festival. For both countries, this is not merely a series of shows, but an artistic bridge between Belarusian and Chinese cultures, an opportunity to showcase the heart of Belarus through theater and to meet new friends who, despite speaking different languages, understand each other through art.

The productions by the RTBD have been selected to participate in the prestigious international festival as examples of contemporary Belarusian theatrical culture that can communicate with audiences through the universal language of symbols, metaphors, and archetypes.

I have always known that Belarusian theater has rich traditions. The performances selected for the showcase could offer something of interest to our audiences. Yes, we speak different languages, and our countries have different experiences and heritage. But it is precisely cultural exchange that strengthens mutual understanding. I hope the theater’s visit will mark the beginning of our long-term cooperation with Belarus, said Han Bao, Program Director of the Theatre Young.

During the festival, the theater troupe will also hold creative events, workshops and lectures.
