Belarusian State Philharmonic to host Minsk Spring music festival in April

MINSK, 30 March (BelTA) – The Minsk Spring music festival will be running in the Belarusian State Philharmonic on 3-27 April, BelTA learned from the philharmonic.

For 36 years, the festival has brought together fans of classical music. The program of this year’s edition will include 11 concerts featuring artists of the Belarusian State Philharmonic and other establishments: orchestras, choirs, and renowned soloists.

Minsk Spring will kick off on 3 April with the popular concert “Music Therapy. Renaissance and Baroque” performed by pianist of the philharmonic Artem Shaplyko.

On 4 April, People’s Artist of Belarus Igor Olovnikov will present the project “Theater Pages in the Sound of the Grand Piano” featuring music for famous scenes from plays and ballets rearranged for one or two pianos.

On 9 April, the Belarusian State Philharmonic will host a concert to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the National Gymnasium-College at the Belarusian State Academy of Music featuring its students.

A concert of chamber music is scheduled for 24 April. Young musicians from Moscow will perform pieces by Johann Bach, Karl Davydov, Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Boris Asafyev, and Sergei Prokofiev.

The program of the festival includes several concerts of the State Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Yevgeny Bushkov. On 13 April, the orchestra together with a quintet of soloists of the Bolshoi Theater of Belarus will perform music by Russian composer Andrei Rubtsov. On 22 April, the State Chamber Orchestra and Yevgeny Bushkov will perform Goethe's Faust as part of the Music and Word cycle.

On 9 April, the Shirma State Academic Choir of the Republic led by conductor Olga Yanum will perform pieces by Giacomo Carissimi, Henry Purcell, John Dowland, Giovanni Gabrieli, and Claudio Monteverdi.

On 16 April, conductor Lyudmila Kalinovskaya will present her project. The concert will feature masterpieces by two composers Johann Bach and George Handel performed by famous young Belarusian musicians. Maksim Shkulepa, Andrei Ivanov, Yuri Kalinovsky, Karolina Nosko together with the Prelude chamber orchestra and the Classic-Avant-Garde ensemble of soloists under the baton of Lyudmila Kalinovskaya will present their take on famous works.

The ensemble Chamber Soloists of Minsk will perform music by Karl Philip Emanuel Bach, Ludwig van Beethoven, and Joseph Haydn on 23 April.

“This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. To honor the memory of its victims, we will stage a liturgy concert on 25 April,” the organizers said. It will feature the State Symphony Orchestra led by People’s Artist of Belarus Aleksandr Anisimov and the choir of the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Minsk who will perform Archbishop Ionafan Yeletskikh’s “Chernobyl Liturgy”.

The concert of organ music performed by winner of numerous international and national competitions Yekaterina Nikolayeva will wrap up the festival on 27 April.

“The 36th edition of the Minsk Spring music festival is a great opportunity to get familiar with world-class Belarusian musicians and enjoy masterpieces of classical music,” the organizers noted.
