MINSK, 16 June (BelTA) – Belarusian oncologists are participating in a number of promising research projects, including studies on cancer vaccines and CAR-T therapy, Head of the Oncology Chemotherapy Department at the Minsk City Clinical Oncology Center Yevgeny Baranov said at a press conference, BelTA has learned.
According to Yevgeny Baranov, the center provides specialized cancer care and serves as the home to the National Thyroid Tumor Center. The overwhelming majority of patients with thyroid cancer in Belarus undergo surgery and radiotherapy at the Minsk City Clinical Oncology Center. The center also serves as a clinical base for the Department of Oncology of the Belarusian State Medical University and cooperates closely with departments of endocrinology and ultrasound diagnostics.
“We have joint projects focused on neuroendocrine tumors and thyroid cancers. Developments by the Department of Ultrasound Diagnostics are already widely used in clinical practice, including for the treatment of patients with liver metastases resulting from colorectal cancer,” Yevgeny Baranov said.
The center is also actively involved in clinical research. “Together with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, we are planning a project on CAR-T therapy. This is one of the most advanced approaches to treating malignant tumors,” he noted. The specialist also highlighted previous cooperation with U.S. companies. “One particularly interesting project involved vaccine therapy. It demonstrated encouraging efficacy in patients with platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. The latest study results were published this year in a European gynecological journal,” Yevgeny Baranov said. A new project involving telomere-targeted therapy is also being planned jointly with a U.S. company and the Alexandrov National Cancer Center of Belarus, with the Minsk center serving as a clinical base. The oncology center has maintained long-standing cooperation with Nagasaki University in thyroid cancer treatment and has signed cooperation agreements with several Russian medical institutions, including the Napalkov Oncology Center. In May, the center also signed a memorandum on cooperation and partnership with GoBroad Healthcare Group. The Chinese healthcare group is actively engaged in developing vaccine-based cancer treatments and CAR-T therapies.
