Belarusian Markava wins European karate title

MINSK, 9 February (BelTA) - Ulyana Markava of Belarus has won the 2026 EKF Cadet, Junior & U21 Championships in Limassol, Cyprus, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian secured gold in the U21 Kumite Female -50 kg. During the competition, Markava defeated France’s Lola Cochard, Sweden’s Agnes Nyman, and Spain’s Mireia Vizuete. In the final, the Belarusian overcame Italy’s Ludovica Legittimo. Five years ago, Ulyana Markava was bronze at the European Junior Karate Championships (U18), and last year she placed third at one of the tournaments of the World Karate Federation’s Youth League.

Earlier, Belarus’ Alina Labatsevich claimed bronze in the Junior Kumite Female -59 kg. Additionally, Belarus was represented in Cyprus by Viktoryia Rudzenchanka (Junior Kata Female), Kseniya Polukhleb (Junior Kumite Female -66 kg), Yahor Kapanitsa (Junior Kumite Male -55 kg), Mikita Bahamolets (U21 Kumite Male -67 kg), Maryia Malakhava (U21 Kumite Female +68 kg), and Ivan Kudzinau (U21 Kumite Male +84 kg). In total, the continental forum in Limassol brought together nearly 1,200 young athletes from 46 countries.
