MINSK, 17 January (BelTA) – The Belarusian Kalyady were celebrated in Paris for the first time, BelTA learnt from the Embassy of Belarus to France.

The event, which was organized by the embassy and representatives of the Belarusian diaspora in Paris, took place on 16 January. The event displayed Belarus’ national traditions of celebrating Kalyady, degustation of rice pudding and other dishes of the Belarusian cuisine.

The program of the event include a concert of the Belarusian people’s and popular song performed by Belarusian singers living in Paris. The concert included songs from the repertoire of Pesnyary music group, famous Belarusian composers Vladimir Mulyavin, Igor Luchenok, Iosif Zhinovich, and Michal Kleofas Oginski.

Belarus’ Ambassador to France Pavel Latushko expressed gratitude to all the guests of the meeting for the efforts to preserve the Belarusian traditions.

Attending the event were about 60 representatives of the Belarusian diaspora and Paris residents. The participants of the event showed interest in holding the Belarusian Kalyady celebrations on an annual basis.
