Belarusian foresters victorious at Russian Logging Championship 2017

MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) - Belarusian foresters were victorious at the Russian Logging Championship 2017, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Forestry Ministry.

Belarus placed first in the team event. Belarus team composed of Valery Durovich, Nikolai Yaroshik and Sergei Shkudrov outperformed the closest rivals Team Russia No.1 by 59 points.

Last year's world champion Valery Durovich, a forester from the Vileika experimental forestry, scored 1,629 points beating Russia champion Ilya Shvetsov by 19 points. Belarus champion 2016 Nikolai Yaroshik showed the best result in the Fitting Another Chain, and placed second in the final protocol (1,624). Nikolai Yaroshik also works in the Vileika experimental forestry company.

Ivan Lukashevich, a junior member of the Belarusian national team, a forester from the Berezina forestry company, surpassed his rival Andrei Veselitsky of Russia by 114 points and became the best (1528 points) among athletes under 24 in the individual event in the out-of-competition program. The 22-year-old Belarus was best in the Tree Felling and Precision Bucking, and came in second in the Fitting Another Chain, Limbing and Bucking by Combined Cut events.

Viktor Zarembo, the technical leader of the Belarusian team, forester at the Smolevichi forestry company, won the Tree Felling routine (657 points) in the out-of-competition program.

The Russian Logging Championship 2017 was held in Petrozavodsk, Karelia. Taking part in the competitions were about 130 woodcutters representing 27 teams. The Belarusian national team performed out-of-competition.

The Forestry Ministry team will continue training for the forthcoming World Logging Championship which is due in Norway in August 2018. Last year the Forestry Ministry national team topped the team standings of the 32nd World Logging Championship in Wisla, Poland. Valery Durovich from the Vileika experimental forestry company took the champion title. Sergei Shkudrov from the Kletsk forestry was a runner up in the individual standings. Taking part in the four-day competitions were more than 140 athletes from 28 countries.
