Belarusian education services in spotlight in Turkmenistan on 15-17 April

MINSK, 14 April (BelTA) – A fair of Belarusian education services will be held in Ashgabat on 15-17 April, representatives of the Embassy of Belarus in Turkmenistan told BelTA.

The event has been organized upon the initiative of the Embassy of Belarus in Turkmenistan. During the fair Belarusian universities will highlight their services before young Turkmens. The Belarusian delegation will be led by First Deputy Education Minister Vadim Bogush. The delegation includes representatives of 18 Belarusian universities. During the fair members of the Belarusian delegation will present information about Belarusian universities and the education they offer.

While in Turkmenistan members of the delegation will meet with Education Minister of Turkmenistan Purli Agamyradov. Meetings of representatives of Belarusian and Turkmen higher education institutions will be arranged. A session of the council of heads of higher education institutions of Belarus and Turkmenistan will take place in addition to a conference on education problems.

At present over 9,000 Turkmen students study in Belarus. Some of them will be later employed by the Garlyk mining and processing factory, which is now under construction. The factory is designed to make potash fertilizers.

Belarus-Turkmenistan cooperation in education is primarily focused on Belarusian universities that train personnel for various branches of the Turkmenistan economy. With this in mind Belarus and Turkmenistan have signed intergovernmental agreements in the sphere of education, agreements on the mutual recognition of education certificates, scientific degrees and titles, and an agreement on cooperation in education affairs between the education ministries of Belarus and Turkmenistan.

Cooperation between universities is promoted as well. More than ten interuniversity agreements have been signed, with five of them inked during the visit of Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Belarus in October 2014.
