Belarusian commission for UNESCO affairs awards BelTA reporter

MINSK, 25 June (BelTA) – BelTA’s reporter Zhanna Kotlyarova has been awarded a certificate of merit by the National Commission of Belarus for UNESCO Affairs for her contribution to popularizing the country’s historical and cultural legacy in mass media, BelTA has learned.

Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs, the commission’s chairman Vladimir Makei presented the award as the exhibition Belarus’ Legacy was opened at premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Opening the exhibition, Vladimir Makei underlined that it reflects the cultural heritage and the natural riches, which help one learn more about the origins of Belarusian culture. According to the minister of foreign affairs, familiarization with Belarus’ culture contributes to intercultural dialogue between different countries while intercultural dialogue represents a good foundation for long-term relations and for the soft power, which helps bolster the idea of peace. Vladimir Makei was convinced that Belarusian cultural legacy is an inalienable part of the world legacy.

In turn, Culture Minister Yuri Bondar pointed out that over the centuries the Belarusian nation had accumulated colossal cultural heritage, which preservation and development represents a most important task. The intangible heritage of the Belarusians remains the foundation for the nation’s self-identification and shapes the country’s stance in the international scene.

Representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations, and members of the National Commission for UNESCO Affairs took part in the event.
