Belarusian Brest, Polish Terespol to hold running race on 15 June

Belarusian Brest, Polish Terespol to hold running race on 15 June

BREST, 5 June (BelTA) – The international running race called Friendship connecting Belarusian city of Brest and Poland’s Terespol will be held on 15 June, BelTA learned from Olesya Krug, the head of sport and tourism of the Brest City Hall.

The event is an annual event and will be held for the 14th time this year. The race will feature 100 runners, 50 from Belarus and Poland each. The race starts alternately in Brest or Terespol. This year it will be the Polish city. The participants will undergo passport controls prior to the race.

The route is 12km long and will wrap up at the Brestsky sports complex with an awards ceremony. The fastest runners will be named in five age categories for men and women. Then the foreign guests will be taken on a guided tour around the city.

“Brest and Terespol are twin cities. The race symbolizes friendship between our cities, promotes a healthy lifestyle. All participants from Poland will come to us using the visa-free travel program,” Olesya Krug said.

Polish citizens actively use visa-free travel opportunities in general. In January-May Brest welcomed around 11,000 foreign visitors (up 2.5 times year-on-year), of which 65% were visitors from Poland. Foreign visitors come to see the sights, to do shopping, and to rake part in event tourism activities. For example, representatives of European countries have applied to participate in the beach sports festival and the night race on 27 July and in Brest Half Marathon on 8 September.
