Belarusian Boxing Championships kick off in Molodechno

Belarusian Boxing Championships kick off in Molodechno

MINSK, 6 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian Boxing Championships began at the Molodechno sport and entertainment center on 6 October, BelTA has learned.

Preliminary bouts will be held on 6-7 October. Semifinals will be held on 9 October. Medal events will take place on 10 October.

Head coach of the national boxing team of the Belarusian Sport and Tourism Ministry Aleksandr Yermashevich told BelTA that the tournament will feature 28 female and 59 male athletes from all Belarusian regions. “We are going to use the tournament to take a look at the candidates for Tokyo Olympics qualifying events. The European qualification is scheduled for February, with the world qualification to take place in May 2021. There are also world championships scheduled for the next season. We are going to decide on the athletes for these prestigious international competitions as well,” the specialist said. 

Athletes taking part in the tournament include champion of the 2nd European Games Dzmitry Asanau, medalist of this multi-sport event in Minsk Uladzislau Smiahlikau, captain of the national team Vitali Bandarenka, young athletes Aliaksandr Radionau, Aliaksei Alfyorau, Yulia Apanasovich, Yana Burym, Alla Yarshevich, Darya Asmolauskaya, and Viktoryya Kebikava.

The event will be held in accordance with the requirements taken amid the ongoing pandemic. All epidemiological and sanitary measures are observed to meet the recommendations of the Belarusian Healthcare Ministry and the recommendations of the International Boxing Federation. The competitions will be held without fans. Participants will have to use face masks. Online broadcast will be available for boxing fans.
