Belarusian ballet to tour France in March-May 2015

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – The tour of the National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus, which is expected to be a highlight of the Days of Belarusian Culture in France, will kick off in Lyon on 21 March, BelTA learnt from the Embassy of Belarus in France.

The Belarusian theater will present its productions of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty. The Belarusian company will perform in 26 cities of France, including Paris, Bordeaux, Brest, Limoges, Lyon, Lille, Marseille, Nice, Strasbourg, Toulouse.

A turnout of more than 100,000 French spectators is expected. There are plans to invite representatives of the French ministries, the UNESCO, the Council of Europe, local authorities and workers of the French public organizations that promote the Belarusian-French relations and the international cooperation with Belarus.

The Days of Belarusian Culture in France will also feature events to mark the 250th birthday of prominent composer Michal Kleofas Oginski with concerts at the UNESCO headquarters and other cultural venues of Paris, exhibitions telling the life and creative work of the composer.

In May Belarus will present its national booth at the Cannes Film Festival. A number of cultural events will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The Days of Belarusian Cinema will take place in Paris and Strasbourg with the demonstration of movies such as Brest Fortress, Apostles’ Footprints, and Shoes. Fifteen Belarusian artists and sculptors will display their works at the exhibition of contemporary art in Paris for the first time.

“All the events of the Days of Belarusian Culture will be sponsored by Belarusian and French companies,” the embassy stressed.
