Belarusian ambassador attends Pope Francis' meeting with diplomatic corps members

MINSK, 10 January (BelTA) – Sergei Aleinik, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to the United Kingdom and the Holy See, has taken part in a New Year meeting of Pope Francis with the diplomatic corps accredited to the Holy See, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the meeting, Ambassador Sergei Aleinik had a short conversation with the Pope. The Belarusian diplomat is in the Vatican on a visit from 8 to 11 January. As part of the visit, he met with Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Holy See's Secretary for Relations with States Paul Gallagher, and Chairman of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, Cardinal Kurt Koch. The sides discussed topical matters of further bilateral cooperation and interaction in international organizations, and also exchanged opinions on the situation in the region.

Ambassador Sergei Aleinik donated the facsimile edition The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna to the Vatican Library as he met with its Prefect, Monsignor Cesare Pasini.
