MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) - Belarusian athlete Yuliya Vitko won a gold medal at the 2026 European Taekwondo Championships in Munich, Germany, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian claimed victory in the 57kg weight category. At the start of the competition, Yuliya Vitko defeated Markella Teggeri of Cyprus, then overcame Ukraine’s Darya Kostenevych in the quarter finals, and beat Hatice Ilgun from Türkiye in the semi finals. In the final, the Belarusian won in two rounds against 2024 European champion Nika Karabatic of Croatia. In 2025, Yuliya Vitko took silver at the continental forum.
On 13 May, Belarusians Maksim Bandarevich (-63kg) and Daniil Yurkou (-87kg) competed in Germany but were eliminated in the round of 16. The Belarusian team has already won four medals (three gold, one bronze). Earlier in Munich, Georgii Gurtsiev (-58kg) and Raman Turavinau (-80kg) won gold, Artsiom Plonis (over 87kg) took bronze.
At the 2025 European Championships in Switzerland, Belarusian taekwondo athletes won one gold, one silver and two bronze medals. Four more athletes from Belarus will compete on 14 May.
