Belarus wins eight medals at FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Germany

MINSK, 4 July (BelTA) – Belarus’ Melitina Staniouta and Yekaterina Galkina have won eight medals at the FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup in Germany, BelTA has learned.

Leader of the Belarusian national team Melitina Staniouta showed second best result in the Individual All-Round, scoring a total of 73,900 points. Dina Averina of Russia claimed gold in the event with 74,050 points. Belarus’ Yekaterina Galkina shared the Individual All-Round bronze with Salome Padzava of Georgia. The two gymnasts earned 73,150 points each.

Melitina Staniouta claimed gold with the Hoop (18,900 points). The same score was collected by Ukraine’s Ganna Rizatdinova, and the two athletes graced the top of the podium. Yekaterina Galkina scored 18,250 points to finish third.

Melitina Staniouta also won silver with the Clubs and the Ball. She also collected bronze in the Ribbons routine. Yekaterina Galkina added bronze with the Clubs.

In the run-up to the 31st Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro the Belarusian gymnasts will take part in two more World Cup events in Kazan and Baku in July. The Olympic rhythmic gymnastics tournament will be held from 19 to 21 August.
