Belarus, WHO to implement joint program to combat noncommunicable diseases

MINSK, 19 May (BelTA) - Belarus and the World Health Organization will implement a joint program to combat noncommunicable diseases, Belarus Health Minister Vasily Zharko said during an online press conference hosted by BelTA website.

According to him, the decision to devise such joint program was adopted during a visit of a WHO delegation led by Assistant Director-General for Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health Oleg Chestnov to Belarus in March this year. “The World Health Organization recognized the achievements of the Belarusian health sector and stepped up work to share Belarus experience with other countries. More experts in all areas of medicine visit Belarus now. The goal of the visit of the Assistant Director-General was to find points of contact between Belarus and WHO and implement joint programs,” Vasily Zharko noted.

The Minister said that the parties will draft a joint program of the World Health Organization and Belarus to implement the agreements reached earlier. “We understand that the World Health Organization will undertake part of financial commitments. We will be provided help so that the experience of the joint work could be communicated to others. These will be projects in the field of oncology and cardiology,” Vasily Zharko noted.
