Belarus welcomes 145 newborns on 1 January

MINSK, 3 January (BelTA) – A total of 145 children were born in Belarus, including 36 in Minsk, on the first day of the new year, BelTA has learned from Belarus' Healthcare Minister Valery Malashko.

The first baby of the year in Belarus was born in Baranovichi 15 minutes after midnight. The first baby in Minsk, a boy weighing 3,990 grams, made his appearance at the Mother and Child National Research Center at 1.00 at night of 1 January.

On 3 January, the minister visited the Mother and Child National Research Center to give presents to the infants born in the first hours of the new year. The campaign will be underway in all maternity homes of Minsk in January. Gift boxes for infants were made with the help of the partner brands of the MamaPro project.

“This is a good example of cooperation between the state healthcare facilities and public associations,” Valery Malashko said. “We are concerned with the demographic issue and should therefore motivate young couples to have children,” he added.
