MINSK, 20 August (BelTA) – A Belarusian team consisting of rescue workers of the Minsk City Department of the Belarusian Emergencies Ministry won the 9th edition of the Firefighter Combat Challenge in Poland, BelTA learned from the Emergencies Ministry.

Rescuers from Minsk took first place in the team standings. Poland and Ukraine placed second and third respectively. “Teams competed for medals in the following categories: team (sum of the three fastest individual results), individual men’s and women’s, tandem (men), tandem mix (men and women), and a relay,” the ministry said.

The Firefighter Combat Challenge drew over 120 participants representing 22 teams of emergency response services, including those from Austria, the UK, the Czech Republic, Germany.

The competitions were held in the Polish city of Kolobrzeg on 16-17 August. The Firefighter Combat Challenge has been held since the mid 1980s. The Emergencies Ministry noted that this year the competitions took place on a sandy beach, which was a surprise for participants.
