Belarus to welcome up to 500 Syrian children for recuperation holidays in 2018

MINSK, 3 April (BelTA) – Up to 500 children from Syria will go on recuperation holidays to Belarus in 2018. The agreement was reached during the meeting between Belarusian Education Minister Igor Karpenko and Syrian Minister of Presidential Affairs Mansour Azzam, BelTA learned from the press service of the Education Ministry.

Igor Karpenko reaffirmed Belarus’ commitment to continue to organize rest and recuperation holidays for Syrian kids in the national children’s educational and health center Zubryonok. Mansour Azzam, in turn, thanked Belarus for support to the people of Syria and the opportunity it provides to Syrian children. He also expressed the intention to step up communication between the two countries in education and explore Belarus’ experience.

The Belarusian Education Ministry has drafted an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in higher education which can give a massive boost to interaction in this field.

The avenues of cooperation include the education of Syrian citizens in Belarusian schools, expansion of cooperation between universities and research programs, teacher and student exchange programs. “We seek long-term effective mutually beneficial cooperation with Syrian in education. We are ready to establish contacts in all fields of concern,” Igor Karpenko pointed out.

He also said Belarus is ready to provide professional education services to Syrian citizens in construction, operation and maintenance of automobiles, and other specialties if there are specific requests. Belarus can also provide relevant teaching materials, help prepare vocational training teachers, and give a list of equipment with the necessary training documentation to open vocational education centers in Syria.
