Belarus to send 390-strong delegation to first CIS Games

MINSK, 7 July (BelTA) – Belarus will send an almost 390-strong delegation to the first CIS Games in Russia's Kazan, Belarusian Sports and Tourism Minister Sergei Kovalchuk said during a video conference held under the auspices of the CIS Executive Committee, BelTA learned from the ministry's press service.

All in all, the Belarusian delegation will comprise almost 390 people, including coaches, doctors, judges, administrative staff,” said Sergei Kovalchuk. “Athletes miss competitions. They all dream of meeting their peers and competing. The CIS Games will give them a great opportunity to do so," the minister noted.

The participants of the video conference discussed a number of organizational and technical aspects of the CIS Games and agreed to hold a seminar of CIS sports delegation heads in Kazan in early August to introduce them to the facilities of the games.

The games will be held in Russia’s Kazan from 4 to 11 September. Fourteen sports facilities will be used for the games, most of which were built for the 2013 Summer Universiade.

Initially, the CIS Games were to be held from 20 to 27 August but were postponed due to the difficult epidemiological situation.

The CIS Games will feature competitions in 22 sports: basketball (3x3), boxing, volleyball (beachfront), table tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, water polo, judo, badminton, swimming, wrestling, sambo, fencing, football (futsal), belt wrestling and kurash, karate, dance sport, arm wrestling, mas wrestling, kettlebell lifting, Muay Thai and chess.

Athletes aged between 14-23 will compete for around 280 sets of medals.
