Belarus to partake in several international book fairs in 2017

MINSK, 2 February (BelTA) – Belarusian books will be showcased at a number of international expos and fairs in 2017, Belarusian Information Minister Lilia Ananich told reporters on 2 February as she attended a meeting of the committee for the organization of events to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book printing, BelTA has learned.

“We plan to take part in a number of international book fairs,” Lilia Ananich said. She noted that the ministry discussed different aspects of the organization of book publishing industry-related roundtables, scientific conferences, and workshops with diplomatic missions, as “today Belarus draws considerable interest as a country that is strengthening its statehood at a deep historical level.”

For instance, the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius will host a roundtable discussion to mark the 500th anniversary of Belarusian and Eastern European book printing. The event will bring together scholars and publishers. Themed roundtables will also be held in Prague, Warsaw, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, and Beijing. A research and practice conference will be held in Belgrade, Serbia.

Belarus will present a national stand at the Paris Book Fair in March. Belarusian books will also be displayed at the London Book Fair. The Minsk International Book Fair traditionally held in February will showcase a whole range of the best current products of the local and international book publishing industry.

Lilia Ananich pointed out that special events will be held during the Belarusian Literature Day celebrations in Polotsk in September 2017. An international roundtable with the participation of Belarusian and foreign writers and poets will be one of them.
