MINSK, 11 March (BelTA) – BelarusNational Academy of Sciences has initiated the all-Belarusian campaign to draw up the national chronicle of the Great Patriotic War, BelTA has learned from the press service of the National Academy of Sciences.

The campaign “The national chronicle of the Great Patriotic War: We remember everyone!” aims to perpetuate and keep memory of the victors’ generation. Plans are in place to involve the patriotic public organizations in the process of writing the chronicle.

The chronicle will be presented during the roundtable in the Institute of History of Belarus’ National Academy of Sciences on 13 March. The leading scholars, war historians of the National Academy of Sciences, higher education institutes and country’s museums will participate in the roundtable. One of the issues for discussion will be the efforts to preserve the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War in Belarus such as scientific historiography, museumification, memoralization with the help of fiction literature and art, the educational process and mass media. The roundtable will review the results of the project to draw up the historical documentary chronicles “Memory” of cities and regions of Belarus and to set up its electronic version.  The roundtable will also feature the presentation of the scientific publications dedicated to the Great Patriotic War events and the exhibition of thematic literature.

“The course ‘Great Patriotic War’ (in the context of the Second World War) is studied in schools, vocational colleges and universities in our country, the only one among post-Soviet countries. Relevant textbooks for secondary schools and universities have been prepared and published. The 75th anniversary of the Great Victory in the Great Patriotic War should become a reason to understand the role and importance of the political and moral lessons of the Great Victory, and search for answers to the new present-day challenges,” the press service said.
