MINSK, 10 October (BelTA) – The national exposition Books of Belarus is on display at the international book fair Frankfurter Buchmesse which is underway in Frankfurt am Main, Germany on 10-14 October, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Information Ministry.

“This is the world’s most important fair for the print and digital media. Belarus has brought to the forum its national exposition featuring the best editions of 2017-2018. The forum provides an opportunity to showcase the domestic book publishing industry, hold talks to promote Belarusian books to foreign markets and attract potential customers. The Belarusian delegation is also expected to take part in all official events of the fair,” the ministry said.

The main objective of the forum is to promote cultural exchange and cooperation between publishing houses in different countries, expand business contacts, and demonstrate various technological innovations of the publishing business. The target audience of the fair includes publishers, writers, translators, illustrators, and representatives of libraries. Every year one of the participating countries receives the status of the Guest of Honor at the book fair. The main purpose of this format is to get readers and professionals familiar with the literature of a particular country, and attract the attention of translators to it. This year Georgia has been named the Guest of Honor at the Frankfurter Buchmesse 2018.

The international book fair Frankfurter Buchmesse is held annually in October at one of the world's largest exhibition venues, Messe Frankfurt. About 100 countries take part in the forum every year. The number of publishing houses showcasing their products exceeds 7,000. The forum is attended by over 280,000 people. Over 3,000 thematic events are held on the sidelines of the forum. These are seminars, roundtables, concerts, meetings with writers, and many more.

The project is organized by Frankfurter Buchmesse GmbH, a subsidiary of the German Publishers & Booksellers Association.
