Belarus secure second win at Christmas tournament in MinskMINSK, 5 January (BelTA) – Belarus defeated Slovakia in the Group A second match of the 12th Christmas amateur ice hockey tournament in Minsk 4:3 (2:1, 0:2, 2:0), BelTA has learned.

Miroslav Satan (Slovakia) and Daniel Corso (Belarus) were named the best players of the game.

In the other match in Group A Switzerland beat the United Arab Emirates 9:6 (3:2, 4:1, 2:3). Group A standings after two rounds are as follows: Belarus – 4 points, Slovakia - 2 points, Switzerland – 2, the U.A.E. – 0.

Belarus secure second win at Christmas tournament in MinskThe results of the second round matches in Group B are as follows: Finland beat Sweden 10:1, Germany drew with Russia 2:2. Finland top Group B standings with 4 points. Sweden is second with 2 points. Germany and Russia have 1 point each. The fixtures on 6 January will feature Germany v Sweden (14.00), Finland v Russia (19.00).

On 7 January the two second-placed teams will play in the bronze-medal match (13.00). The first-placed teams will advance to the gold-medal game (19.00). Both matches will take place at Chizhovka Arena.

Belarus secure second win at Christmas tournament in MinskThe team of the President of Belarus is the eight-time winner of the Christmas international tournament (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014). Team Russia is a three-time champion (2007, 2011 and 2015). In the final match of the last tournament Russia beat Belarus 2:0. In the bronze-medal match Finland defeated Slovakia 8:6.

The organizers of the event are the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation (BIHF), the Minsk City Hall and the President's Sports Club.
