MINSK, 4 November (BelTA) – Belarusian weightlifter Artsiom Rahazhynski has become a medalist at the European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships in Durres, Albania, BelTA has learned.

The Belarusian athlete competed in the men’s +110kg junior category. Rahazhynski began his snatch session by successfully lifting 160kg. After failing at 165kg, he came back strong on his third attempt to secure a 166kg lift, which won him the small bronze medal in the discipline.

In the clean and jerk, the Belarusian successfully lifted 200kg. However, his total of 366kg was not enough to make the overall podium, leaving Rahazhynski in the fourth place, just three kilograms behind the top three. The victory in this category went to Russia’s Georgii Miand (386kg).

With one day of the competition remaining, the Belarusian team has collected 17 medals (5 gold, 7 silver, 5 bronze) at the continental forum. The previous medalists were Dziyana Maiseyevich and Andrei Fralou (each with 2 gold and 1 bronze), Yahor Papou (1 gold, 2 silver), Darya Kheidzer (3 silver), Ihnatsi Pauliukavets (2 silver, 1 bronze), and Artur Yakushau (bronze).

On 4 November, the Belarusian team will be represented by Alena Bondarava, Siarhei Sharankou, and Uladzislau Sakovich. The European Junior and U23 Weightlifting Championships in Albania have brought together more than 400 weightlifters from 42 countries.
