Belarus president receives painting of native land from BSMU students

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – Students of the Belarusian State Medical University (BSMU) presented a picture of Alexandria outskirts as a gift to Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko, BelTA informs.

The painting depicting Alexandria outskirts, where the president was born and spent his childhood, was made six-year student of the Belarusian State Medical University Yuliya Golubchik. She said that she grew up in the town of Bykhov, Mogilev Oblast. “Those places are very beautiful. I would like to present this painting to you as a gift from BSMU students to remind you about your native places,” the student said.

“Did a doctor paint this picture?” the president said.

“She is a good painter and a saxophone player,” BSMU Rector Anatoly Sikorsky said.

“Oh, she’s a musician like me,” the head of state expressed his appreciation and presented a gold-plated pen to Yuliya Golubchik. He promised that the painting will be displayed at the Palace of Independence.

Anatoly Sikorsky added that in 2021 the Belarusian State Medical University will mark the 100th anniversary and invited the head of state to attend the celebrations. The event is scheduled for 5 November 2021, he said.

“Can I come even if I am no longer president?” the head of state wondered. “Of course,” the rector assured him.

Aleksandr Lukashenko told the students that he receives thousands of presents from politicians, businessmen, artists. In his words, hand-made gifts are the most precious gifts.
