MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – The Belarusian-Polish advisory commission for historical and cultural heritage will meet in Minsk on 27 June. The commission will review the work to prepare a nomination file for the inclusion of the Augustow Canal in the UNESCO World Heritage List, BelTA learned from Belarusian Deputy Culture Minister Vasily Chernik.

The nomination file tops the agenda of the meeting. The Belarusian and Polish specialists have been working on the file for several years. ICOMOS representatives will come to Belarus to provide comments on the nomination file and review progress in the implementation of the previously given recommendations.

The agenda of the meeting in Minsk also includes projects to renovate historical and cultural heritage sites. The experts will discuss projects conducted in cooperation with Polish specialists, including the projects to renovate the Roman Catholic cathedral in Berestovitsa District, Grodno Oblast, to preserve the wall paintings in the Corpus Christi Church in Nesvizh, to renovate the chapel in Gorodniki, Oshmyany District, and to renovate the wooden warehouse at the Bridgettine convent in Grodno.

Besides, the Polish side suggests a set of measures to preserve the organs in the Holy Trinity Church in Smorgon District.

The meeting will sum up the results of the 22nd Nesvizh international summer school. The first stage of the project was held in Belarus, and the second one will take place in Poland in August. The project is themed around the development of cultural landscape.

Apart from that, the agenda for the meeting includes matters related to the cooperation between librarians and archive workers, and to the plans to spruce up Polish military cemeteries in Belarus.

The Polish delegation will visit the Belarusian UNESCO World Heritage sites, Mir Castle and Nesvizh Castle.
