Belarus’ Permanent Delegation to UNESCO to hold Oginski ball in Paris

MINSK, 10 April (BelTA) – Belarus’ Permanent Delegation to UNESCO will organize a costume ball featuring music by Michal Kleofas Oginski to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the composer in Paris, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian Embassy in France.

The event will be held at the UNESCO headquarters with the assistance of the Mir Caste museum.

Plans have also been made to organize a joint Belarus-Lithuania concert with the participation of Belarusian pianist Yekaterina Glazovskaya and the Ciurlionis String Quartet from Vilnius in September 2015.

Besides, the press service noted that a concert was held on 9 April to celebrate the anniversary of Michal Kleofas Oginski, the Belarusian, Lithuanian and Polish composer, diplomat, politician, and patron of arts. The event was organized by the Belarusian Embassy in France and Belarus’ Permanent Delegation to UNESCO jointly with the French-Belarusian music association Life in Music. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to France Pavel Latushko and head of the Life in Music association Georgy Sosnovsky addressed its participants with welcoming remarks.

“For the first time music by Michal Kleofas Oginski was performed by a Belarusian pianist (Yekaterina Glazovskaya) and a French vocalist,” the embassy pointed out.

It has become a tradition for Belarus' Permanent Delegation to UNESCO to celebrate the dates which are important both for Belarus and the organization. Such celebrations promote Belarusian culture in France and other UNESCO member states.
