Belarus’ National Library website shortlisted for UN World Summit Awards

Belarus’ National Library website shortlisted for UN World Summit Awards

MINSK, 8 November (BelTA) – The internet portal of the National Library of Belarus has been shortlisted for the UN World Summit Awards in the Culture and Tourism category, BelTA learned from the library’s PR department.

“The online jury has chosen about 130 projects, including the internet portal of the National Library of Belarus, a large-scale resource designed to provide access to information on the library’s collections, external information resources, provide information and bibliographic services, draw attention to the cultural life of the country and introduce the library’s scientific, educational, cultural and social activities. The recently ungraded portal is a multilingual platform that combines a large number of services and resources integrated with the automated library and information system of the National Library,” representatives of the PR department said.

Each information product was evaluated by eight jury members, representatives from different regions of the world and various professional fields, which guaranteed an impartial selection. The analysis took into account the impact of local digital content on society and attention to innovative media products. “The shortlist of the international competition will be judged by a grand jury of the WSA. Five winners in each nomination will be determined at the end of November. Winners will be announced in Accra, the capital of Ghana. They will be awarded at the WSA Global Congress. The previous Global Congress was held in Vienna, Austria, and gathered over 700 participants from around the world,” representatives of the library said.

World Summit Awards is the international contest of the UN World Summit aimed at supporting digital innovations with a high potential impact on society. A total of 438 applications from more than 100 countries have been received in 2018. WSA has been held since 2003 in accordance with the UN framework program “Information Society” (UN WSIS).
