Belarus’ National Library launches exhibition project ahead of Great Victory celebrations

MINSK, 15 April (BelTA) - Belarus’ National Library of Belarus has launched a large-scale exhibition project “The Great Victory” on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, BelTA learned from the library.

The main goal of the project is to preserve historical memory and to maintain a deep understanding of wartime events. The exposition includes authentic items from the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, monographs, encyclopedias, collections of archival materials, iconic documents and other print publications from the fund of the National Library of Belarus, as well as originals and copies of unique documents of the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus.

The exhibition project showcases the banner of the partisan detachment (brigade), the military guards banner from the fund of the State Museum of the History of the Armed Forces of Belarus at the Defense Ministry of Belarus. The Belarusfilm studio provided everyday wear of partisans and underground workers, military uniforms, and also films for the project. “It is personal items from places of execution, shackles, chains, prisoner-of-war stocks, tools of weapons workshops, a printing press, stamps, clichés, underground receivers, surgical instruments used in the medical units of partisan detachments that render the voluminous experience of the perception of the military event,” the National Library said.

The mobile exhibition “Forest Song” demonstrates the daily life and work of partisans during and between military operations. The exhibition also includes genre illustrations from handwritten magazines and the art of Belarusian partisans. “The exhibition also demonstrated the project “100 days to the Great Victory. Through the Pages of 1945 Belarusian Newspapers” launched on 30 January 2020, exactly 100 days before the Victory was proclaimed. It is a daily chronicle of news and events up until 9 May 1945, prepared on the basis of materials from the Soviet Belarus periodicals. A short film made on the basis of archive materials will tell the audience about the National Library of Belarus during the war period, “ the library noted.

The organizers of the exhibition project are the National Library of Belarus, the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, the National Archives of Belarus and the Belarusfilm film studio.
