Belarus’ Nadezhda Makarchenko nominated for World Paddle Awards 2016

MINSK, 2 November (BelTA) – Belarusian athlete Nadezhda Makarchenko has been nominated for the World Paddle Awards 2016 (WPA) in the Sports Junior category, BelTA has learned.

Among the nominees for the prestigious award apart from the athlete from Bobruisk are four athletes from the United States, the Czech Republic, the Republic of South Africa and Poland. The World Paddle Awards winners are selected through a secret vote held by the WPA members and also by a number of favorite athletes and nominees submitted on a special web page http://www.worldpaddleawards.com/nominees.

Nadezhda Makarchenko won five gold medals (C1 200m, C2 200m and 500m) at the World Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint Championships in Portugal and Belarus in 2015 and 2016.

The talented Belarusian athlete received the Piotr Nurowski Prize for the Best Young European Athlete during the 25th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in Minsk in October 2016.

The World Paddle Awards (WPA) is held annually, celebrating the most remarkable men and women from the world of paddlesports along with their achievements from the previous calendar year. The voting will be open through 20 November 2016. The winners will be named at a special ceremony in Portugal in February 2017.
