GRODNO, 2 June (BelTA) – Grodno Oblast presented its new tourist route, At the Crossroads of the Country: a Journey to Volkovysk and Volkovysk District, BelTA learned from the Sport and Tourism Department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee.

The new tourist route has been registered in the National Tourism Agency. It has been recently presented to the representatives of the tourist industry. From now on the objects of the route can be included into the travel program of the region.

“Volkovysk District undeservedly lack tourist attention. There is a large array of visitor attractions. Among them there are beautiful churches in Ross, Volpa, Shilovichi, Gnezno, old estates in Kraski and Podorosk. Volkovysk also boasts iconic places. For example, the city is famous for its Shvedskaya Gora, which, by the way, will offer interactive performances, and also the estate-museum of Pyotr Bagration,” the Sport and Tourism Department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee. Agro-ecotourism is also well developed in Volkovysk District.

The famous Belarusian Maldives - chalk quarries of Krasnoselskstroymaterialy Company – are also located within the area. So far, tourists have been asked to refrain from visiting the technical facilities for safety reasons. Work is underway to design a viewing platform over one of the quarries. There is also a very interesting museum at the enterprise.

There are two certified tour guides for the new route. All in all, almost 30 guides were certified in Grodno Oblast in late May. They include 23 guides and five escorting interpreters who speak Polish, English and German. Today there are such specialists in every district of the region.

The Sport and Tourism Department of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee added that the emphasis is currently made on domestic tourism.
