Belarus’ health workers get first dose of Sputnik V vaccine

MINSK, 17 February (BelTA) – The  vaccination of Belarusian healthcare workers with the first dose of Russia’s Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine has completed, BelTA learned from the press service of the Healthcare Ministry.

Frontline healthcare workers were the first to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The Healthcare Ministry distributed the vaccines across the regions depending on applications of healthcare institutions. The cold chain compliance procedure was observed.

Brest Oblast vaccinated 3,460 healthcare workers who signed up for the first stage of the immunization program. Vitebsk Oblast vaccinated 3,950 people, Gomel Oblast 5,495 people, Grodno Oblast 1,795 people, Minsk 2,285 people, Minsk Oblast 2,324 people, and Mogilev Oblast 1,635 people.

The first jab was also given to the personnel of boarding schools, nursing homes and care homes in Brest Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast, Gomel Oblast, Grodno Oblast and Minsk Oblast.

The Healthcare Ministry added that immunization is critical to ending the pandemic. Vaccination is voluntary in Belarus.
