MINSK, 12 May (BelTA) - Belarusian athlete Georgii Gurtsiev won gold at the 2026 European Taekwondo Championships in Munich, Germany, BelTA has learned.
The Belarusian became the best in the 58kg weight category. In his first fight, Georgii Gurtsiev defeated Portugal’s Tiago Lopes. In the next round, he knocked out Croatia’s Josip Teskera, and in the semi finals he was stronger than Enes Kaplan from Türkiye. In the gold medal match, Georgii Gurtsiev beat Italy’s Abderrahman Touiar in two rounds, 16-13, 20-18.
In 2025, Georgii Gurtsiev finished second at the World Championships and third at the European Championships. He also has a silver medal from the 2023 World Championships. Earlier, Belarusian Artsiom Plonis (over 87kg) won bronze at the 2026 European Championships in Munich.
Three Belarusian athletes will compete at the European Championships in Germany on 13 May, and four more athletes from Belarus will fight on 14 May.
