Belarus’ Grinkevich-Sudnik breaks world record in classic powerlifting

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – Alexander Grinkevich-Sudnik of Belarus broke the world record in the 74kg category at the European Classic Powerlifting Championship in Plzen, the Czech Republic, BelTA has learned.

The best athletes were named in the total of three lifts (squat, bench press and deadlift). Alexander Grinkevich-Sudnik won his weight category event with the total result of 710kg (squat – 242.5kg, bench press – 167.5kg, deadlift – 300kg) to set a new world record.

Gold also went to Belarusian Alexandra Otchenashko who lifted a total of 335kg (132.5kg+67.5kg+135kg) in the 47kg category. Belarus’ Snezhana Zubko also claimed gold in the 72kg event with the total of 442.5kg (172.5kg+82.5kg+187.5kg).

In the junior event Violetta Kudrevich won the 43kg event with the total result of 227.5kg, Viktoriya Makarevich was the best in the 63kg category (357.5kg). Silver went to Igor Yuzapchuk (66kg) with the total of 555kg.

In the youth event Artyom Filipchenko lifted a total of 540kg to finish second in the 74kg category, Pavel Rusetsky was third in the 59kg event with the total of 350kg. Gold went to Tatiana Damashina (47kg) with the total of 237.5kg and Alexandra Burykina (52kg) lifting a total of 295kg. The 63kg bronze went to Yekaterina Medvedskaya (a total of 290kg).
