Armor exhibition at Nesvizh Palace

Throughout the year, visitors to Nesvizh Palace can immerse themselves in the world of ceremonial and hunting weapons. Outstanding examples of officers' dress weapons (daggers, rapiers, shashkas, sabers), coat swords and departmental swords, Masonic ritual swords, and exotic weapons from various countries… These valuable artifacts have been collected and provided by private collector Anatoly Grishuk.

As the owner noted, his interest in the history of weapons first emerged when he found a 1932-model uhlan saber that had belonged to his father. His grandfather served in the Imperial Army and was on the security detail of Nicholas II when the monarch visited our region for military maneuvers in 1892. The exhibition also explores the culture of hunting, where weapons are not only objects of art but also symbols of power and instruments for demonstrating mastery over nature.

A real draw of the exhibition is an installation of a rider on a horse clad in the shining armor of a Winged Hussar of the Grand Duchy of Litva (Lithuania). Guests will also have the opportunity to try on medieval armor, experience its weight, and take photos alongside a figure of Nicholas Radziwill nicknamed the Orphan.

July 3 – Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus (Republic Day)

Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus was established as a public holiday in 1996 following a nationwide referendum. The date of 3 July was chosen symbolically: it was on this day in 1944 that the capital was liberated from the Nazi German invaders during the major strategic offensive Operation Bagration.

A reenactment of historical events - a fragment of the large-scale encirclement of the 105,000-strong German troop grouping (the Wehrmacht's 4th Army) east of Minsk during Operation Bagration, which became known as the Minsk Cauldron, and the liberation of the capital in July 1944 can be seen at the Stalin Line on Independence Day.

Celebration of Independence Day in Belarus traditionally begins with rallies and wreath-laying ceremonies at monuments and memorials, and then continues with patriotic events, historical reenactments, motorcades, concerts, sporting events, fairs, and public festivities on central squares, in parks, and gardens. The culmination of the celebrations in the capital will be a festive gala concert and the anthem singalong which will take place from 21.00 till 00.10 at the Minsk Hero City Stele.

International water rafting in Kameno

The outstanding historian, archaeologist, ethnographer, and local historian Konstanty Pijewicz Tyszkiewicz went down in history as one of the founders of Belarusian scientific archaeology. In June 1857, the scholar organized the first large-scale scientific water expedition along the Viliya River from its source to its mouth, traveling 682 versts over 4 months on specially built boats and rafts! During the rafting trip, Konstanty Tyszkiewicz meticulously described coastal settlements, the way of life, daily customs, and culture of the local population and investigated ancient hillforts and burial mounds. The result of the expedition was a unique atlas that included 39 rapids on the Viliya, and the collected data laid the foundation for ongoing hydrological observations. Inspired by Konstanty Tyszkiewicz's project, in 2007 local historians organized a water rafting event that now gathers enthusiasts from different countries every year.

The Nightingale ballet premiere at the Belarusian State Academic Musical Theater

The Belarusian State Academic Musical Theater closes its 55th season with the premiere of the ballet The Nightingale, set to the music of Igor Stravinsky and staged by Sergei Mikel, who also makes his debut as librettist. The production draws on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale and Igor Stravinsky’s opera, refracted through a contemporary lens by the libretto’s author. In an age of digitalization and information overload, the story of the Nightingale serves as a reminder of the value of sincerity and the imperfect beauty of genuine emotion. The choreography becomes a meditation on the choice between outward glitter and inner truth.

A cornerstone of Belarus’ cultural scene, the International Festival of Arts Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, and it’s doing so with a fresh conceptual approach that harks back to its roots. The run-up to this landmark edition kicked off 35 days before the official opening, with a marathon of events extending far beyond Vitebsk and even beyond the country’s borders. A concert-and-entertainment roadshow, the Cornflower Tour, has been making its way through major cities across Belarus.

The festival’s main stage, the Summer Amphitheater, will host eight gala shows this year, including the opening and closing ceremonies, a gala concert featuring artists from the Union State of Belarus and Russia, and performances such as Golden Hit, the Humor Cup, a show by Ani Lorak, and CHANSON TV - All Stars. Crime and Punishment premiere at Theatre for Young Spectators

To mark the 205th anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s birth, the Minsk Theatre for Young Spectators has prepared a premiere production based on his legendary novel Crime and Punishment. This marks the second outing on a Belarusian stage for director Ksenia Samodurova from Moscow, following the success of The Queen of Spades, which won over audiences’ hearts. According to her, the novel’s themes, still studied in schools today, have never felt more relevant in the current climate. At the heart of the new production is the idea that “every person needs another person, no matter what”, along with a universal love that extends beyond the dynamics between men and women. One of the production’s distinguishing features is its use of religious music and prayerful vocal compositions.

Over the past decade, this delicious celebration has grown into an international event, becoming a cultural and gastronomic hallmark of Vitebsk Oblast. Every spring, the area is awash in cherry blossoms, and by summer, it’s time to savor the fragrant fruit. All of this is thanks to local agronomist and horticulturist Boleslav Lapyr, who over a hundred years ago developed a cherry variety hardy enough to withstand the harsh winters of the northern region and shared it with the surrounding communities. Visitors can look forward to a theatrical procession called Visiting the Cherry, along with a host of cherry-themed fun (song and dance contests, photo and drawing competitions, hairstyle shows). They’ll also crown a Cherry Princess and, of course, sample the famous Glubokoye berries at the cherry fair. The festivities will wrap up with a gala concert titled Cherry Blossom of Friendship.
